The Sheds – Self/Doubt EP (2012)

the2bsheds-3240906The Sheds are a four piece post-skacore (as they call it) band from Agoura Hills, California, who were recently signed to Mediaskare Records’ sub-label, Rite of Passage Records. To me, this seems like a bit of an odd fit because most of the bands on Mediaskare and Rite of Passage are hardcore or metalcore bands, while The Sheds are kind of a mix of pop punk and ska with a slight bit of melodic hardcore influence. I guess the aforementioned labels are trying to expand on the genres that they are looking for!The Sheds’ new EP, Self/Doubt, is set to release in early 2012, but they are currently streaming it. For the most part, The Sheds sound like a punk/pop punk band from the late 90s, but they have some ska and melodic hardcore influence on some tracks which adds to the listening experience. My personal favourite tracks are the final two, Counting Sheep and Namesake. Both of these tracks have more of a melodic hardcore/pop punk influence than the others, which is probably why I like them so much. If I had to choose between the two, Namesake would definitely be my favourite.I went into my first listen with an open mind, but I was expecting it to be mediocre at best. I thought I was going to give this one listen, then delete it from my iTunes library. However, I was pleasantly surprised with how well done it was, and I know that many others are going to be impressed with this EP like I was. Take 15 minutes out of your day and give Self/Doubt a listen. You will not regret it. threeandhalf-4480857
