The smell of grilled meat was strong as I pulled into the Toyota Pavilion in Scranton, PA on an overcast afternoon. Mayhem Fest, Warped Tour’s little chaotic brother, had come into town and metalheads were rocking early by tailgating in the parking lot. Gates opened to the side stages at 1 P.M.; King 810 warmed things up on the Coldcock Whiskey stage while Upon A Burning Body and Veil of Maya held things down on the Sumerian stage. Miss May I, Mushroomhead and Suicide Silence performed in support of veterans Cannibal Corpse while Emmure headlined the Victory Records stage. Free Rockstar was available and motorcyclists performed stunts as the bands performed. Around 4 P.M., gates to the pavilion opened, which acted as main stage. Trivium and Asking Alexandria performed as it was light and people were still filing in. By the time Korn appeared, it was pure night and people were stacked all the way to the fence at the back of the lawn section. Avenged Sevenfold closed out the night with an 11-song set including an encore and lots of fire. Check out some photos from the festival below.
